Kenneth M. Dymond

Mr. Dymond has 30 years experience in the software industry as programmer, technical manager, process consultant, and author.  With former colleagues from the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), he co-founded Process Transition International, Inc. (PTI), a company that helps clients make process improvement a routine part of their business.  As a member of the PTI team, he performs as SCAMPI Lead Appraiser, and conducts courses and workshops on the SEI’s CMMI® and on action plans for process improvement.  His interests and writings span software process improvement methods, process maturity models and organizational cultural change.

Before joining the SEI Process Program in 1988, he performed various software engineering roles from constructing large-scale economic models and systems programming to developing software standards and benchmarking supercomputers in the federal government in the Washington, DC area.  He also was a software engineer and group manager in private industry in New England.

At the SEI, he worked with Watts Humphrey (author of Managing the Software Process)  and other members of the Process Program developing the SEI’s assessment method that has been in use worldwide. With his colleagues in the Process Program, he made many innovations in the method of conducting assessments, including evolution of  the training course into a highly interactive experience for assessment teams.  He also consulted with SEI clients on post-assessment process improvement. While working with the SEI Risk Program, he incorporated many lessons learned into software risk assessments and the training of its practitioners.  He was founder and leader of the Industry Risk Management project at the SEI and brought the collaborative features of assessment to systematic identification of software risks.

He has participated in numerous process and risk assessments in all roles as team member, coordinator, process coach, trainer, and team leader.  He is an SEI-authorized SCAMPIsm lead appraiser,  and instructor for Introduction to the CMMI v1.2.

He is a recognized authority in the CMM and developed the pictogram method to illustrate CMM processes. His 1995 book, A Guide to the CMM, based on  pictograms was translated into French, Spanish, German and Japanese.  His book A Guide to the CMMI, (2nd edition) v1.2  was published in 2007.  The Dymond Diagrams are recognized in SEI's Introduction to CMMI course as the technique used to illustrate Process Area details.

(PTI).  As a team member of PTI, she assists companies in their process improvement efforts by conducting assessments, SPI briefings with management and practitioners, and CMMI and action planning workshops.  She also provides facilitation and consulting to clients in the CMMI, Quality Assurance, and process improvement.  She has conducted research on the role of senior management and champions in successful software process improvement and has given talks in the US and internationally on this subject and the CMM.

At the SEI, she worked with Watts Humphrey (author of Managing the Software Process) and was SEI Task Leader for developing the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) as a member of the Software Capability Evaluation Project in the Process Program.  She is co-author of v1.0 of the SEI’s Key Practices of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and is a recognized authority on its interpretation and application.

She has participated in numerous process assessments in all roles as team member, coordinator, process coach, trainer, and team leader.  She is an SEI-authorized instructor of the Introduction to CMMI course. She was an SEI-authorized lead assessor in the CMM-Based Appraisal for Internal Process Improvement (CBA IPI).  As a PTI team member, she co-authored and delivers the “People Oriented Software Quality Assurance” and “Practical CMMI” workshops.  She also has a wide range of experience with non-SEI process models and assessments including those addressing new product development and telecommunications product development and support.

Prior to joining the SEI in 1988, she was Manager of Development Methodology for both Kraft, Inc. and Signature Group.  In this position, she assessed the process improvement needs of the IS organization via structured interviews and facilitation of interactive workshops, introduced and facilitated an innovative method for bringing end-users into the design process, and implemented a productivity measurement program.   She developed, implemented and supported the organization’s project management process and tools.   She also has performed various software development roles in the development of IS systems for both Signature Group and PepsiCo, Inc.

Anne E. Hurley

Ms. Hurley has 18 years experience in the software industry, developing software,
managing software projects, and helping software organizations to improve their
effectiveness through technology, tools, training, and process improvement. She
joined Process Transition International, Inc. from Xerox Corporation where her roles
had included software engineer, project manager, quality and technology transfer
manager, and process improvement specialist.

At Xerox, Ms. Hurley was responsible for establishing a partnership with the
Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and initiating software process improvement
using the CMM. As a team member of Process Transition International, Inc., Ms. Hurley
works with software organizations to enable sustained and continuous improvement in
software delivery practices. Her recent research and development focus is on planning
and evaluating effective change programs in software process improvement, and on the
role of management style and culture in organizational change. While at Xerox, she
co-developed with SEI technical staff the "Nine Dimensions for Successful Software
Process Improvement," a tool for planning and evaluating software process improvement
projects.

She was a founding member of the Xerox corporate software center and a software
process improvement consultant across the company. She worked with senior managers
to build awareness and support, provided assistance to management steering committees,
SEPGs, and process improvement teams, conducted assessments, and facilitated action
planning and implementation. She was also responsible for software quality assurance
and software process improvement for a large bi-coastal software delivery organization.

Her experience as a software engineer and project manager at Xerox included developing
a proprietary Ada-like programming language for real-time control software,
transitioning software development from mainframes to personal workstations, and
enhancing development capability through improved compiler performance, code
optimization, incremental binding, and symbolic debugging.

Her responsibilities included assisting software teams with incorporating these new
technologies into their day-to-day work practices through user support, documentation,
and training. In addition, Anne led several cross-organizational teams working on issues
such as software measurement, the Xerox software delivery process, and Xerox software
configuration management guidelines.

Ms. Hurley is an SEI-authorized lead assessor in the CMM-based Appraisal for Internal
Process Improvement (CBA IPI) and an authorized practitioner of SEI's Interim Profile
